We made this set, so that it will last for years and you won’t have to replace it every two years like traditional chess sets. The deluxe set comes with extra queens. A carrying case is included. Shipping weight is 4.14lb! The contrasting king and queen are optional. If you prefer them to be the same color, you can easily swap the crowns yourself – they’re not glued, just tight fitted.
The last image shows the color variations. The off white pieces look best with a black squared board and yellow with the green squared one.

The Chessforblitz chessmen are superb. They have a very similar “absolute clarity and board presence” that I associate with the 1970s Jaques Staunton design chessmen used by Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky during their historic 1972 World Chess Championship match in Reykjavik, Iceland — with the exceptions that (1) unlike the ebony pieces of the Jaques set, the Chessforblitz chessmen will not crack due to temperature and humidity fluxuations and (2) they are vastly less expensive than the Jaques sets, which have long been out-of-production and have become very expensive “collectibles”. (For anyone who is curious, the very set used by Bobby and Boris for Game 3 — “the ping-pong room game” — is currently held in the collection of the World Chess Hall Of Fame in St Louis, Missouri. The pieces are beautiful and the weight is perfect. Used them at the club for the first time and the pieces received a lot of attention and compliments. I might like a matte version as an option as the glossy is a bit shiny if you are recording the game on the board, but I highly recommend this set to anyone playing any rapid or blitz time control.

I was one of the first customers who ordered this set about a year ago. I refrained from reviewing the set giving it time to prove itself. The advantages of the set are not apparent at first , except the nice design and weight. They start to manifest themselves overtime. After a year of active play, pieces being dropped from the table, the set remains as good as new. The material is amazing – it is very dense and it does not get dirty at all. My previous set (Fischer Ultimate) looked like crap in half the time – some of the weights fell off and the queen’s crown pieces broke off. Chessforblitz remained intact – it was built to last. My review is for potential buyers. I had been considering to order a set for some time – the price was a deterrent. However, after using the Chessforblitz pieces, I now firmly believe the price is a bargain. There are plenty of chess sets on the market offered at higher prices with mediocre quality. Chessforblitz is the opposite – good quality, but underpriced.
